Elijah faces hostilities from Jezebel after the victory over the followers of Baal. He retreats into the wilderness where God sustains him and leads him to a mountain where He reveals His plan for Elijah and the remaining followers of Baal. Even in the end, God extends His grace for those who never worshiped Baal and promises to save them from what is coming.

Elijah Gets Ready

God's followers are being persecuted and killed in the northern tribes of Israel. Elijah is called upon to go down to a secluded area where he meets a woman and her child. He stays with them and all three are provided for by God. Elijah is called upon to take a step in his faith greater than any other he had been through before. God demonstrates to the woman that He is the one true "living God". Elijah sees that through perseverance and faith God can do extensive work through us as well.

When Paul makes his way to Jerusalem, he must give a defense to a variety of different parties. At the core of his defense is that he is a Christian by reason as he explains that Jesus fulfills the Old Testament. We should seek out evidence and be willing to respond to what we see. Believers should be prepared to boldly make a defense through personal testimony and through Scripture.

Paul demonstrates to the Corinthians the importance of living to serve others and having a mind to suffer for Christ. As we live our Christian lives looking to meet others need, we can experience great peace and seeing God work through us in others lives. Christians who develop Paul's attitude toward the suffering in their lives are capable of experiencing deep spiritual transformation as their faith is increased as God works. As we suffer, we are able to see who God really is at a more profound level.

Fanning the Flames

A zealous, excited response is normal for those who have encountered Christ. The un-energized Christian is a living contradiction. If our zeal for using our gifts dies down we can "fan the flames" using God-given means through practice, diligence, and urgency. Running the Race (Part 1)

God has a race for His people to run! It requires endurance and several key points. The first key is to get rid of all suitcases. These can be the sins that hinder us or the activities we do that aren't morally wrong but still slow us down. The second key is to get strength from other veteran runners. Characters from the Old and New Testaments, biographies of other Christian workers, and Christian workers God puts in one's life can be great sources of motivation and encouragement.
