Grief Ministry

Most grieving people are unprepared for the intensity and duration of the emotions from grief. The Dwell Grief Ministry provides support for all age groups through various peer-led workshops designed to encourage, educate, and equip those grieving the death of a loved one. Such programs include:

Navigating Your Grief: a 10-week workshop utilizing portions of the GriefShare videos as well as group discussion to help people at all stages of grief understand the process and obtain the tools to move forward. This workshop provides comfort and support, along with practical suggestions and reassurance through interviews with counselors, grief experts, and others who have experienced the pain of losing a loved one.

Navigating Your Grief starts on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024 at 7 pm at the Dwell Office Auditorium.

Good Grief: a discussion group for young adults (18-30ish) who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or friend. Meeting others who have lost a loved one can help normalize the experience for younger people, who often do not know anyone who has experienced the unique grief from death. Meetings occur quarterly.

Navigating Holiday Grief: a two-hour workshop to help grieving  people navigate the holiday season, which can present special challenges. This workshop provides practical coping strategies for dealing  with the many emotions of the holiday season, reassessing past traditions, navigating social events, and maintaining a positive perspective.  This workshop will be Sunday, November 10th, 2024 at 1:30pm at the Dwell Office Auditorium.

Navigating the Loss of a Spouse: a two-hour workshop featuring  practical suggestions and reassurance for those who have experienced the unique pain of losing a spouse. Topics include what to expect in the weeks and months after a spouse’s loss, what to do with surprising emotions, how to respond to changing relationships, how to handle loneliness, what to do with your spouse’s belongings, and how to find the strength to move forward. It is offered twice a year. This workshop is offered bi-annually.

Helping Others Navigate Grief, Loss, and Disappointment: a four-week class designed to help people learn to be more effective in ministering to others in grief — not just grief from death, but grief from any type of loss. This class goes in depth into how to serve to those who are suffering, and will help an individual learn practical ways to support and comfort others, avoid saying or doing things that are not helpful, and develop better listening skills. The class also covers how to communicate with children and teenagers regarding grief and loss in an age-appropriate way. Next class starts Wednesday June 26th, 2024 at 7pm.

Grief Consulting & Coaching: a program offering assistance to home group leaders, house leaders, and others who need guidance in ministering to those in their group who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Grief team members do presentations at home groups and cell group on various grief related topics. Also, one-on-one support is offered in both adult and college spheres.
