Becoming Who We Are

Once we are baptized into Christ, we receive all the spiritual blessings in the heavenly places. Although our present condition does not seem to be much different, our condition has radically changed for the better. We can now see ourselves in Christ and no longer focused on performance. We are now secure, motivated and unafraid.

What Has Abraham Found

Paul raises the example of Abraham as he makes his case for justification through grace alone, not through the law. Paul shows that even righteous Abraham was only able to stand before God on the basis of faith, with God crediting it to hi as a gift, not an earned wage. While God offers this gift to all of us, we have to receive the gift by asking God for it.

King Davis'd loyalty to his friend Jonathan can be seen in how graciously he treated Jonathan's crippled son, Mephibosheth. Instead of slaughtering every surviving members of Saul's family, David chose to extend unbounding kindness to Saul's grandson by inviting him to dine at the king's table every night and gave him all of Saul's land and property. God's kindness toward us is far greater than David's. It is a totally unmerited gift. The only condition is that we humbly entrust ourselves to God and Jesus.

Passing On the Message

Paul encourages Timothy with the message to stay strong in the grace God has given him. Paul entrusted him to pass on the Biblical truths he had learned from Paul with the goal of multiplying Christ-followers. Jesus' plan to multiply disciples by one-on-one mentoring may seem slow at first but multiplication results in much greater numbers over time than simple addition.

Do Not Be Ashamed of Your Faith in Jesus

What is the message? It is unspeakably valuable. God loves us despite what we have done, not because of what we have done. We are loved, not loveable. Jesus chose to give His life as an incredibly heroic act of love. Why should anyone share this message? This is transcendent truth. It is a beautiful message. It has supernatural power to change lives. How can we share this message well? Prepare to suffer and be rejected. Get the focus off your fears, and onto God's transformative power. Remember that it is all worth it!
