This confirms Christ's claim of being the Son of God, anticipates the greater resurrection and guarantees our resurrection so we can face death with hope. Through this account, we learn God feels anger and sorrow about death. Those who know God can grieve death with hope.

The Resurrection of Christ

The resurrection of Christ is a critical issue: if Christ was not raised then Christianity is false, but if he was raised then it confirms all of Jesus' teachings. There is a myriad of historical evidence for Jesus' bodily resurrection, including eyewitness accounts in the gospels and extra-Biblical sources. No alternative explanation can account for the evidence. Ultimately, the resurrection assures us of salvation and of God's power.

The Bread of Life

John 6:14-69

Jesus performs miracles to show God's power and point to deeper spiritual truth. His claim, "I am the bread of life" was misunderstood and didn't meet the expectations of the disciples or the crowd that followed him. The disciples wanted to influence and significance while the crowd wanted their physical needs met. Properly understood, Jesus' message means we will experience hunger until we come to him. He knows our deepest need for spiritual life and can meet it if we choose to believe in him.

The Resurrection

John 20:1-18

The claims that Jesus made before dying on the cross were pretty outlandish. These claims that he made were not just unusual, but verifiable. Jesus needed to validate his claims because the implications of his death and resurrection are significant: Jesus came to save humanity. It was not only during the time of Jesus' death that God wanted to provide evidence for faith in God, but He wants to provide that now for all people. Since God is a loving father who wants good things for us, it is reasonable and verifiable to believe the claims that He makes.

Jesus' Resurrection

Jesus is resurrected from the dead. He reveals God's plan for his relationship with humanity: 1) through Christ's sacrifice we can be in a love relationship with God; 2) Christianity is missional and purposeful; 3) Christianity is a religion of conversion. Jesus appears to his followers and they respond in various ways that highlight humanity's responses to Christ's resurrection as well.

I Am the Light of the World

Jesus claims he is the light of the world. He offers direction and protection in this life, the forgiveness of sins, friendship with God and evidence that he is who he says he is through his death and resurrection. According to the Bible, people have two options: 1) choose Jesus' death to pay for our sins or 2) die in our sins and be separated from God. Jesus demonstrated through the Pharisees accusation against the adulterous woman that no one is without sin.

I AM the Resurrection and the Life

Lazarus and his sisters, Mary and Martha, were close friends of Jesus. When Lazarus died, Jesus intentionally set up a drama to draw our focus to his central purpose: resolving the problem of death. Jesus Christ is the Resurrection and the Life and the answer for death. We need to get this incredible message out to a dying world.

Resurrected Bodies

1 Corinthians 15:35-58

God is capable of creating and giving people new bodies. In Paul's first letter to the Corinthians we see what these new bodies will be like for those who have put their faith in Christ. We know that our earthly bodies: perish, have dishonor, weaknesses, and are naturally made for this earth. Whereas, heavenly bodies will be: imperishable, radiate God's glory, have power, and will be spiritually capable of living in God's presence.
